First walk on Beaty Property

,

So today I had the fortunate opportunity to be taken on a tour of the Beaty property for the first time. Thank you Howard Prince. This was obviously emotional to him as he talked about this property to me. The people who are opposed to the Luminous development are not loons or ignorant they are just concerned citizens that see such a greater potential for this property than anyone presently at Town Hall. Though I was originally in favor of the Luminous plan seeing this property in person has sealed my opinion that there is no way that this property should be developed in the manner that the TOD and DDP developers have planned. Having educated myself as to the history of the property, seeing the surrounding neighborhoods and how they will be impacted, and thinking about what this is doing to divide the citizens and town hall there is no way we should proceed with development of the property as currently planned.

I did not realize there was actual trails there and the amount of beautiful mature trees that are everywhere throughout the property. This totally reminds me of he dirt bike course in the woods across from Jetton Park in Cornelius which we were able to access from our old neighborhood in Patrick’s Purchase. The thought that this pristine property would be clear cut in the same manner as WEST BRANCH would be an absolute travesty that could never be undone. We now have clear evidence what this does to the surrounding areas and neighborhoods seeing how the clear cutting of the Westmoreland property has had on the beauty of the greenway and impacted the entire adjacent areas. In addition where they have planned access roads from the Beaty property dumps traffic on to already clogged roads or roads that are essentially one way roads in very densely populated neighborhoods, this cannot be allowed to happen.

Anyone who cannot see what a wonderful asset this property would be as a park to the town is unfathomable. I believe every registered voter in the Town of Davidson should avail themselves of the opportunity to walk this property before the November elections. I can guarantee you it will also change your minds if you have any doubts. You will be able to envision for yourself how once cleaned up what a wonderful Central Park this could be for Davidson.

I implore everyone who has not seen this property in person to please do so. Once you have seen it, remember those that supported and/or voted to condemn this property forever and make your vote count to Save Davidson. If this is the so called “Davidson Way”, then we should reject it and find a new way. If I had known a year and a half ago what was going on in Davidson I would have stayed in Cornelius. My hope is that we can change our WAY and our decision to move here will be what we were expecting.

See photos below, which don’t do the property justice. The pond on the property, which has mostly been drained because the dam containing it is non-functional in spite of what Leaman Brice might have us believe. You can see that once cleaned up and filled what a beautiful focal point of a park this would be. Now envision four condo buildings surrounding the lake. Also if you look at the final Luminous drawing (#4) you will see as you walk the property the area that is projected to be a park is the part of the land that is totally not able to be developed even as any functional Park. We are not being told the entire truth about this development and need to do whatever it takes to put a pause on any contract signing until further information is provided to we the citizens of Davidson. Sorry for the long post but seeing this property today has hit a nerve.
